Priority Records is an American record label . It is now owned and managed by the EMI Music label . Priority Records made a name for itself mainly by promoting and producing various hip-hop and rap artists.

The beginnings

The Los Angeles-based company was founded in 1985 by Bryan Turner , Mark Cerami and Steve Drath . The years between 1987 and 2001 were the most successful for Priority Records. Music greats such as NWA , Ice Cube , Master P , Snoop Dogg , Mack 10 , Westside Connection , Eazy-E and Ice-T were among her protégés.

The takeover by EMI Music

In the early 1990s, Priority Records signed a distribution agreement with EMI Music. The label remained completely independent until half of it was taken over by EMI Music in 1996. In 1998, the company was completely owned by the much larger label. After the takeover, Priority Records initially worked under its own name until it was completely transferred to the EMI subsidiary Capitol Records in 2001 .

The return

At the end of 2006, EMI revived the label. The first albums under the new, old name are expected in spring 2007. Artists like C-Murder and Duece Poppi are supposed to make Priority Records a successful hip-hop and rap record label again.
