The private brewery Bischoff GmbH + Co. KG is a brewery in the Palatinate town of Winnweiler .
history
Christian Bischoff (1843–1887), the founder of the brewery, was able to serve the first beer on December 7, 1866 in his barn in Winnweiler, which had been converted into a brewery . That date is now considered the date the company was founded. In 1884 the facilities were relocated to their current location, which is now called “An den Hopfengärten”.
The company is still family-owned and describes itself as "The only brewery in the Northern Palatinate". Sven Bischoff and Erik Bischoff have been managing directors in the fifth generation (since 2001). After Erik Bischoff left, Sven Bischoff has been running the brewery alone since January 2009. In 2003 the brewery had 85 employees and sold 110,000 hectoliters of beer, some of which were also abroad.
At the beginning of August 2013 it was announced that Karlsberg would take over the distribution of the Bischoff beers from 2014. In return, Bischoff develops and produces specialties and marginal assortments for the Karlsberg Group.
The unofficial trademark is Elwetritsch , the Palatinate mythical creature, to which the Black Elwis variety (see below) alludes .
