Bolten brewery, Rheydter Strasse in Korschenbroich in 2008

The private brewery Bolten is a beer brewery in Korschenbroich-Neersbroich. The annual production in 2003 was around 95,000 hectoliters.

history

The brewing trade was already established in Korschenbroich in the 13th century. According to the brewery's own statements, a Heinrich der Brauer was granted the right to brew beer at the Kraushof in Korschenbroich by the rule of Myllendonk Castle in 1266 , from which the brewery claims to be the oldest of its kind. However, the namesake Peter Bolten only leased the Kraushof in 1753 and finally acquired it in 1774. As the last member of the family, Hans-Otto Bolten managed the company in the seventh generation as managing partner from 1992 to 2005. As with all Altbier breweries, the brewery was also in decline Altbier sales affected from the beginning of the 21st century. Due to a lack of funds, necessary renovations could no longer be financed and there was an investment backlog. On June 9, 2005, the former CEO of the beverage company Brau und Brunnen, Michael Hollmann, took over the company, which urgently needed to be modernized. In December 2006, the former shareholder of the Diebels brewery , Paul Bösken-Diebels, took a 50 percent stake in the company, and the necessary modernizations were carried out. In the meantime (2015/16) beer sales at Bolten have stabilized and 45 employees produce 70,000 hl of beer per year.

On April 2, 2014, the Federal Cartel Office imposed on the Bolten brewery as well as several other breweries in Germany and the Verband Rheinisch-Westfälischer Brauereien e. V. Fines for prohibited price fixing for beer totaling 231.2 million euros.
