The Private Gymnasium Esslingen (PGE) is a high school in Esslingen am Neckar . The school offer of the private school is aimed at children and adolescents with attention deficit / hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and other learning and behavioral disorders such as B. Autism Spectrum Disorders .

history

The private grammar school Esslingen was founded in December 2008 for children and young people with AD (H) S jointly by parents and teachers and started operations in January 2009. It is a successor to the Münsinger Schule gGmbH , which had to close in autumn 2008 due to lack of funds. Parents and teachers got involved with loans and individual guarantees, the teachers also with a salary waiver to enable this school to restart.

The school is run by a sponsoring association in self-administration by parents, teachers and other volunteers.

In January 2012 the PGE was officially recognized, which enabled the Abitur exams to take place for the first time in 2013.

school

The school model is based on the experiences of the Mininotschule e. V. at the Children's Therapy Center Esslingen. The PGE is the first and only grammar school for children and young people with AD (H) D in Germany. Some of the students were marked by fear of school and refusal to attend school. In addition to the partial performance disorders LRS , dyscalculia and graphomotor disorders, which are often associated with AD (H) D , some of the students had developed comorbid disorders that represent additional challenges in everyday school life.

A total of 97 students from grades 5 to 12 are taught by 20 teachers. A psychological - pedagogical team is on hand to help students, parents and teachers. The maximum class size is 15 students. The smallest class has 5, the largest 15 students (as of April 2020).

The school fees are graded according to the financial ability of the parents.

Educational concept

The PGE has a special profile for children and adolescents with AD (H) D, from which others who have difficulties structuring learning processes also benefit.

Clear structures in everyday school life, small classes, individual time-outs ("brain ventilation") and a low-stimulus learning environment are just a few of the important prerequisites for the success of children and young people at school. The teachers are specially trained: The lessons are characterized by small-step procedures, immediate feedback through reward systems and regular repetition and practice units. The psychological - pedagogical team accompanies the children and young people through their everyday school life and also involves the parents beyond the usual extent. The PGE is operated as an all-day school .
