Prix du Jockey Club
The Prix du Jockey Club is a horse race that takes place annually on the first Saturday of June at the Chantilly Racecourse. This horse race has been held by the Jockey Club de Paris since 1836 and is the second highest endowed race in France after the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe . In 2017 it was endowed with 1.5 million euros. It is a Group I race for three year old thoroughbred horses over 2100 meters, with a home straight of 600 meters.
The Prix du Jockey Club is the French counterpart to the English Epsom Derby and the Irish Irish Derby .
The French jockey Yves Saint-Martin was able to win the race nine times, namely on Reliance (1965), Nelcius (1966), Tapalque (1968), Sassafras (1970), Acamas (1978), Top Ville (1979), Darshaan (1984) ), Mouktar (1985) and Natroun (1987).
By Tom Jennings Sr. trained horses won 10 times, namely Porthos (1852), Monarque (1855), Ventre Saint Gris (1858), Black Prince (1859), Gabrielle d'Estrees (1861), Consul (1869), Insulaire ( 1878), Zut (1879), Albion (1881) and Dandin (1882).
Horses that the textile manufacturer Marcel Boussac were able to win 12 times the race, namely Ramus (1922), Tourbillon (1931), Thor (1933), Cilla (1938), Pharis (1939), Ardan (1944), Coaraze (1945 ), Sandjar (1947), Scratch (1950), Auriban (1952), Philius (1956) and Acamas (1978).
