Sassafras ( English thoroughbred horse ; * 1967, † 1988) was a successful French horse racing horse.
After being in 1970 under his regular jockey Yves Saint-Martin 1 races already the lucrative group Prix du Jockey Club and Prix Royal Oak won, he took in October of the same year at the famous Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe at the Longchamp Racecourse in Paris , where he was able to beat the favorite Nijinsky II, ridden by Lester Piggott , by a head's length.
After his active career, Sassafras was used in breeding.
Sassafras was put to sleep on December 7, 1988 and buried at the Pillar Stud stud (now called Magdalena Farm ) near Lexington in the US state of Kentucky .
