Prod (German Pruden , Hungarian Pród ) is a village in the Sibiu district ( Romania ). It belongs to the municipality of Hoghilag ( Halvelagen ).
location
Prod is located about in the middle of Transylvania in a northern side valley of the Târnava Mare ( Great Kokel ), about 12 km northwest of Sighișoara .
history
Prod was first mentioned in 1348 in a document from the Transylvanian voivode Stephan from the Thorenburg state parliament . When some Prudish people left their hometown in the 15th century, they carried on the name of their place of origin as a family name.
population
The town was shaped for centuries by the German population. Their number decreased slowly after the Second World War and rapidly after the revolution of 1989 .

The nearest train station is on the Teiuș – Brașov railway line .
Attractions
The church was consecrated on June 26, 1906. The baroque altar dates from 1780 , the side parts are in the rococo style, the upper picture of the risen Christ was only painted in 1906 by the Hermannstadt painter Arthur Coulin.
The Transylvania Horse Show takes place here every year.
