The Professional Commons ( Chinese  公共 專業 聯盟  /  公共 专业 联盟  - "about: Civil Alliance of General Professionals", 公 專 聯  /  公 专 联 for short ) is a non-profit organization and think tank in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region , which is run by functional Constituencies also holds seats on the Legislative Council .

aims

The Professional Commons aim to improve the quality of public administration and involve the community in the policy making process by using the skills of professionals and specialists. Your aspirations for a better Hong Kong are expressed in the following goals:

  • Equal and universal suffrage is to be introduced, as the Chief Executive is currently being elected by a predominantly pro-Chinese election committee.
  • The government is said to be monitored through analysis by professionals.
  • The community should be more involved in general politics.
  • The Professional Commons take a professional look at politics and share it in the public interest.
  • The freedom and independence of the experts and specialists in various professional groups should be retained.

The Professional Commons, which consists predominantly of experts and specialists from various professional groups, promise to act in the public interest rather than in the interests of companies or specific industries . The demands for independence and freedom in the professional world and in political life as well as the commitment to universal suffrage indicate membership of the pro-democracy camp , which Hong Kong's system wants to maintain and expand as liberal-democratic and western-oriented .

history

During the election of the Chief Executive of Hong Kong in March 2007, over 100 members of the election committee from different professions came together to advocate the rapid implementation of democratization . Together with other like-minded experts and people from different professional groups, the members of the election committee decided to act as mediators for democratization and good governance .

In the 2012 election to the Legislative Council, three members were elected by Professional Commons. All three candidates were elected in functional constituencies for specific occupational groups. Charles Mok and Kenneth Leung ran as independent candidates and Dennis Kwok as a candidate for the Civic Party . In the 2016 Legislative Council election, two candidates in functional constituencies were directly elected for Professional Commons.
