Profile wine
A profile of wine is a varietal quality wine from one of the growing areas of Germany . It should be style-defining and represent the typicality for the specified grape variety in this growing area. It is labeled with the two names Classic and for higher quality with Selection . In other countries with wine-growing, especially those with a terroir-dominated quality orientation , there is no differentiation from quality wines. In France, for example, ideally not a single varietal wine, but always a cuvée would represent a specific wine region.
requirements
The requirements for classification as a profile wine differ slightly in the various German wine-growing areas, but have in common:
- dry expansion , i.e. less than 9 g residual sugar / l
- regionally typical grape variety restriction, single variety
- Details of the year
- increased minimum must weight
- Minimum alcohol content
- Details of the producer or bottler
- Registration with the responsible control authority by the specified deadline (e.g. July 1st of the harvest year )
history
The term profiled wine was first brought into being for Silvaner in Rheinhessen in 1984 by the Rheinhessen Wine Brotherhood and the Rheinhessen Regional Wine Promotion Association and has since been approved in all 13 German wine-growing regions through the implementation of relevant legal provisions. Wines with the designation Selection have been permitted since the 2000 vintage.
rating
The introduction of this term has led to a significant profiling of the simple wine qualities in Germany and given the wine consumer appropriate security. Customer acceptance is correspondingly high. For the discerning consumer, such labeled bottles are a sign of reliable quality.
