The Prong Point ( English for Zackenspitze ) is a narrow headland on the north coast of Coronation Island in the archipelago of the South Orkney Islands . It separates the entrance to Imray Bay in the west from that to Ommanney Bay in the east. The headland belonged to Antarctic Specially Protected Area No. 114 , but its protection status was lifted on August 5, 2014.
The British sealer captain George Powell and his American counterpart Nathaniel Palmer sighted this headland in December 1821 while exploring the South Orkney Islands together. The Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey took surveys between 1956 and 1958. The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee gave it its descriptive name in 1959.
