Prorer Wiek

The location of the Prorer Wiek

The Prorer Wiek is one of the Spit Schmale Heide offshore Baltic Sea bay between the peninsula Jasmund and the Granitz on the island of Ruegen . Like the Schmale Heide, it is located in an old glacier tongue basin from the last Ice Age ( Vistula Ice Age ) between the island cores Jasmund and Granitz. The name is derived from the Prora , a forested range of hills in the southern part of the Schmale Heide.

On the approximately 21 km long shore of the bay, which largely consists of a wide, fine sandy beach, lies the glamorous seaside resort of Binz with the district of Prora and, further to the north, near the Sassnitz district of Mukran, the Sassnitz ferry port and the city of Sassnitz with its city port.
