Prospère Bruggeman

Prospère Bruggeman (born March 7, 1873 in Ghent ; † 20th century) was a Belgian rower who was second in the Olympic Games in 1900 and won six European Championships.

Prospère Bruggeman rowed for the Koninklijke Roeivereniging Club Gent . This club placed eighth several times , who represented Belgium at the European Championships . From 1897 to 1910 the Belgian eight won the title at the European championships twelve times, the French boat only won in 1905 and 1909. Prospère Bruggeman was in the victorious boat in 1898 , 1899 , 1900 and 1902 . Previously, he had already taken third place in 1894 and second place in the eighth place in 1896 . In 1900 he won the four with helmsman and was third in 1902. Together with Charles Boone he also competed in the double scull . The two were European champions in 1899 and second in 1900.

At the Summer Olympics in Paris in 1900 , a total of five boats competed in the eight, including the eight from Ghent. Since the French boat gave up in the run, all boats that reached the finish in the run also reached the final. In the final, the boat from the Vesper Boat Club from Philadelphia won, with the eighth from Ghent finishing second, six seconds behind. Other rowing competitions were held as part of the supporting program for the Olympic Games, but these are no longer considered part of the actual Olympic Games. In the four with a helmsman of the seniors, the boat from Ghent with Prospère Bruggeman, Maurice Hemelsoet , Frank Odberg and Jules de Bisschop won , the helmsman is unknown. All four rowers were also members of the eighth.
