The protein S (S Seattle) is a vitamin K -dependent plasma glycoprotein that in the liver is formed. It is to initiate the dissolution of a blood clot ( fibrinolysis required) and acts as a cofactor of protein C .

A protein S deficiency can accordingly lead to thrombosis . Protein S is regulated by factor C4BP of the complement system .
