The VRM (formerly Verlagsgruppe Rhein Main ) is a regional media company for the western and southern Rhine-Main area based in Mainz . According to its own information, VRM reaches around one million readers in Rheinhessen , southern and central Hesse with its regional daily newspapers and employs a total of over 1,750 people at 36 locations. The sold circulation is 287,389 copies, an increase of 30.6 percent since 2014.

Since 2014 the Gießener Anzeiger Verlagsgesellschaft has been 100% owned by VRM as a newspaper group in Central Hesse around the Gießener Anzeiger with several headers .

In the summer of 2015, VRM took over all the shares of the Bach family of publishers in Echo Medien GmbH in Darmstadt , which publishes the Darmstadt Echo with headers. Of the six local editions, the Rüsselsheimer Echo had to be handed over to the Frankfurter Neue Presse of the Frankfurter Societätsverlag group due to antitrust approval . Printing centers

Printing center Mombach: until 2010

The VRM printing center was located in Mainz-Mombach from 1975-2010 . The direct connection of Mombach to the Mainzer Ring offered logistical advantages. A second construction phase was completed in 1985. Three 48-page high-performance newspaper printing machines ( WIFAG OF-7) were used in the printing center. In the pre-press newspaper pages created were digitally exposed directly to the printing plate . Three imagesetters offered a capacity of 510 plates per hour and the three web offset rotary printing machines were able to output 105,000 newspapers per hour at maximum speed. Around 15,000 tons of paper were printed each year, for which around 450,000 printing plates were used each year. The paint consumption was around 215 tons per year.

The printing center closed in 2010. The 200 employees were not transferred directly to the new printing center (due to changed qualifications). However, a social plan published in September 2009 provided for transfer measures and a change to a transfer company .

New print shop in Rüsselsheim am Main: from 2010

At the end of 2010, production started at VRM Druck, formerly Druckzentrum Rhein Main (DRM), in Rüsselsheim am Main. Up to 180,000 newspaper copies with 48 four-color pages per hour can be produced on four production lines. The Rhein Main printing center has been a full subsidiary of VRM since the Echo takeover in 2015.

The VRM is co-partner of the church newspapers of the dioceses Mainz ( Faith and Life ), Limburg ( Der Sonntag ) and Fulda ( Bonifatiusbote ) through the Society for Church Publishing Mainz mbH & Co. KG . There are also holdings in the private radio stations Radio RPR and Hit Radio FFH . VRM also holds shares in Radio Regenbogen and, since 2008, in Rockland Radio.

The VRM is shared with the Baden-Wuerttemberg regional newspaper publishers Badisches press building GmbH & Co.
