history

Today's Lauterbacher Anzeiger appeared for the first time on January 4, 1834 as a Lauterbacher Wochenblatt with the subtitle for instruction, amusement and notification . The founder and first editor was Johannes Meyer, who came from Büdingen . At the end of 1848 the paper was given its current name Lauterbacher Anzeiger . At the same time, in addition to the previous Saturday edition, an edition appeared on Wednesday for the first time. In 1871 Johannes Meyer sold the newspaper to his colleague Heinrich Mey. From the 1880s onward, local reporting increased steadily after almost exclusively official announcements and national news had been published in the first few decades.

After the publisher bought a high-speed press in 1899, the scope of the newspaper was expanded significantly, and pictures were also published regularly for the first time. From July 1891 the Lauterbacher Anzeiger appeared three times a week (Monday, Wednesday, Saturday). In 1909 Friedrich Ehrenklau took over the printing and publishing house from Alsfeld . From January 1, 1910, four issues a week appeared. During the First World War , the circulation rose to around 5,000 copies. Extra sheets have also been issued. From July 1, 1919, the Lauterbacher Anzeiger appeared daily. In 1928 the Fuldaer Anzeiger was founded as a subsidiary edition , whose target group was the Protestant minority in the predominantly Catholic district of Fulda . However, he was hired again after a short time.

In the era of National Socialism " conformist " Lauterbacher indicator equaled his appearance with the occupation of the city by the US Army on March 29, 1945th Since the publisher Ferdinand Ehrenklau had joined the NSDAP in 1937 , the American military government prohibited the newspaper from appearing again. Instead, the Oberhessische Volkszeitung appeared in the Lauterbach district as a local edition of the Fuldaer Volkszeitung , the only licensed regional newspaper . The first post-war edition of the Lauterbacher Anzeiger was only able to appear on September 28, 1949 after the license requirement was lifted . From then on, the national news section was taken over by the Gießener Anzeiger .

In 1967 the Ehrenklau publishing family leased the newspaper to the Brühl printing and press house in Gießen , the parent company of Gießener Anzeiger . From then on, the newspaper was also printed here, and from 1972 in Alsfeld. The circulation at that time was 3,100 copies. In June 1989, the local competitor Oberhessische Volkszeitung with 1,200 readers was taken over. Since then, the subtitle has been Vogelsberger Nachrichten - Oberhessische Volkszeitung . Since October 2002 the Lauterbacher Anzeiger has been published in full color. In July 2006 it was merged with the Oberhessische Zeitung , which appears in neighboring Alsfeld, in the publishing company Vogelsberg GmbH & Co. KG .
