Psallus perrisi is a type of bug from the family of soft bugs (Miridae).
features
The bugs are 3.2 to 4.0 millimeters long. The genus Psallus includes small, often red, gray or dark brown speckled bugs, in which the pronotum and the hemielytres are covered with pale, scale-like hairs and in which the thorns of the rails ( tibia ) arise from black points. The species of the genus can often be difficult or impossible to differentiate on the basis of external characteristics. Most of the time, however, the species can be narrowed down based on the host plant. The males of Psallus perrisi have a dark black-brown basic color; the females are a little lighter in color. The top of the body is covered with golden hairs and the thighs ( femora ) are dark. The species can only be distinguished from Psallus wagneri on the basis of a genital morphological examination.
Occurrence and habitat
The species is distributed in Europe, east across Asia Minor to the Caucasus. It occurs everywhere in Germany and is usually the most common type of oak in its genus. So far, it has only been proven sporadically in Austria.
Way of life
Psallus perrisi lives mainly on English oak ( Quercus robur ), more rarely on other oaks ( Quercus ) in low population densities. The species occurs in large numbers on English oak, so that it can also be found on other woody plants such as hawthorns ( Crataegus ), maples ( Acer ), lime trees ( Tilia ) and the like while swarming , especially when such prey animals like Aphids live. The adults can be observed from mid / late May to a maximum of early August, but mostly until early June.
