Pseudoacanthocereus is a genus of plants from the cactus family(Cactaceae). The botanical name of the genus is derived from the Greek verb "ψεύδω" (pseudo) for deceive and refers to the deceptive similarity with the genus Acanthocereus .

The species of the genus Pseudoacanthocereus , which initially grow somewhat upright, are usually elongated to elongated and much branched from the bottom. The slender shoots reach a diameter of up to 3 centimeters and have 3 to 7 high and thin ribs with small, brownish areoles from which numerous short, needle-like, white to brownish thorns arise.

The long funnel-shaped flowers are white, up to 15 centimeters long and open at night. Your flower cup and the flower tube are occupied with a few areoles that produce tufts with small thorns.

The fleshy, spherical to pressed spherical, thorny fruits are initially green and light yellow when ripe, strongly scented and non-tearing. They are up to 6 centimeters (or more) in diameter and contain white pulp. The fairly large, light brown seeds are up to 5 millimeters long and 3.5 millimeters wide.

Systematics and distribution

One species of the genus Pseudoacanthocereus is common in Brazil , the other in Venezuela .

The first description of the genus was made in 1979 by Friedrich Ritter . The type species of the genus is Acanthocereus brasiliensis . The genus includes the two species:
