Pseudoacanthocereus brasiliensis is a species of plant in the genus Pseudoacanthocereus from the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet refers to the origin from Brazil.

description

Pseudoacanthocereus brasiliensis grows richly branched with initially upright, later spread to prostrate, shiny, bright green shoots . There are 4 to 5 (rarely 2 to 8) thin, high and slightly wavy ribs . The small areoles are 2 to 4 centimeters apart. From them arise numerous needle-like, white thorns that have a darker tip and are up to 3 centimeters long.

The flowers are up to 12 to 19 centimeters long and have a diameter of 11 to 12 centimeters. The spherical fruits are initially green and later turn light yellow.

Distribution, systematics and endangerment

Pseudoacanthocereus brasiliensis is distributed in the Brazilian states of Bahia and Minas Gerais at altitudes of 40 to 700 m. The first description as Acanthocereus brasiliensis was published in 1920 by Nathaniel Lord Britton and Joseph Nelson Rose . Friedrich Ritter placed them in 1979 in the genus Pseudoacanthocereus .

Pseudoacanthocereus brasiliensis is in the endangered Red List species the IUCN as " Vulnerable (VU) ", d. H. endangered, classified.
