Pseudostantienite is a type of amber that was found in the Goitsche opencast mine near Bitterfeld . The name introduced with the description in 1986 indicates the great similarity with the amber species Stantienite . The pseudostantienite is only known from the Bitterfeld site, more than 70 pieces have been recovered.

Pseudostantienite belongs to the group of black resins. In contrast to the similar stantienite, its shape is flat. Breaks are rare, large-scalloped, welted and deep black with a matt sheen. Grinded surfaces are rough and black with a slightly reddish silk sheen, caused by the layered fine structure. It is not brittle, but tough and very difficult to polish. The powder is cinnamon in color.

Other authors doubted the independence of the pseudostantienit without justification, but ultimately recognized it.

The origin of the pseudostantienite is not yet known. As with Stantienit, a relationship with Canarium rostratum from the balsam tree family (Burseraceae) appears, according to Alexander Tschirch, the presumed parent plant of the "Black (Sumatra) Dammar".
