In Bern, Tschirch devoted himself to the research and collection of resins and other plant extracts with great commitment . This resulted in a large collection of these substances and his book, The Resins and Resin Containers Including Milky Juices, which was considered a standard work at the time (2nd and expanded edition 1906, 1268 pages).

A large part of the works on materia medica that Tschirch has collected are now in the Historical Library of Swiss Pharmacy in Bern.
