content
“Psst pp Piano - Hommage à Mary Bauermeister ” leads with its documentary character through the history of art - from the beginnings of Dadaism (1916) to the pre-Fluxus movement (1960–1962) in the Rhineland. The main characters in the film are artists who laid the foundations for the Fluxus movement in Mary Bauermeister's studio at Lintgasse 28 in Cologne : Mary Bauermeister, Karlheinz Stockhausen , Hans G Helms , John Cage , Nam June Paik and Ben Patterson . The central event of the film is the portrayal of Nam June Paik's concert “Hommage à John Cage” from 1960. The plot of the film is based on true events, impressions, interpretations and stories that cannot be checked.
History of origin
Mary Bauermeister rented the attic at Lintgasse 28 (Cologne's old town). There she organized exhibitions and concerts in 1960 and 1961. The Bauermeisters Contre Festival, which it organized parallel to the World Music Festival of the International Society for New Music ( IGNM ), which took place in Cologne in 1960 , became legendary . She took in the young composers who had been rejected by the official festival and put their concerts in the late evening so that everyone interested in music could come to the Lintgasse studio after the IGNM concerts. So it came about that guests like John Cage , Nam June Paik , David Tudor , Sylvano Bussotti , Cornelius Cardew , Karlheinz Stockhausen came to Bauermeister's studio. Around 1960 Cologne was the center for contemporary art. These connections and the mood of departure provided the inspiration for the film psst pp piano .
