The boe umberfish ( Pteroscion peli ) is the only species of the genus Pteroscion from the family of umber fish (Sciaenidae). It occurs in coastal and brackish waters off the west coast of Africa from Senegal to Namibia . The species is fished commercially.
features
Boe umberfish reach an average body length of about 18 and a maximum of 35 centimeters. The mouth is clearly above with a protruding lower jaw. The eyes are very big. The anal fin has two hard and nine soft rays. The swim bladder has tree-shaped appendages at its front end.
Way of life
Boe Umberfish can be found in open water at depths of up to 200, mostly up to 50 meters, above sandy and muddy bottoms. They eat fish, cephalopods, crustaceans and worms.
