Pteryx suturalis is a beetle from the family of dwarf beetles (Ptiliidae).

features

The beetles reach a body length of 0.7 to 0.75 millimeters. Their body is broad, slightly arched, has parallel sides and is not very fine and hairy close-fitting. It is brown-red in color, the tips of the wings are blackish or the wings have an elongated smear caused by the second pair of wings below. They are finely structured and not tightly dotted. The antennae and legs are yellow. The head and pronotum are finely shagreened and almost not structured in a punctiform manner, the rear angles of the pronotum are almost rectangular.

Occurrence and way of life

The species occurs in almost all of Europe. The northern limit of distribution includes Scotland, the North Cape, Lapland and northern Russia, in the south the species is distributed as far as the Mediterranean region in Spain, southern Italy and Greece. The species is very common in Central Europe. The animals live in sludge, rotting wood and occasionally under leaves and moss in forests.
