Ptilidium is a small and the only genus of leafy liverworts of the Ptilidiaceae family .

features

The plants are olive green, brownish or reddish and one to three pinnate. The transverse to oblique flank leaves are bilobed, with the ventral lobe divided again so that the leaves appear multi-lobed. The leaf margins are long ciliate. Lower leaves are present, they are smaller than the flank leaves and bilobed. The lamina cells have nodular, thickened cell corners. There are 15 to 40 oil bodies per cell .

The species are diocesan . The cylindrical perianthia are ciliated briefly at the mouth. Spore capsules are oval. Brood bodies are not formed.

Systematics

The genus Ptilidium includes three species worldwide, two of which occur in Europe.
