Ptilostemon stellatus is a species of ivory thistle ( Ptilostemon ) in the sunflower family (Asteraceae).

features

Ptilostemon stellatus is an annual, chewy shaft therophyte that reaches heights of 15 to 30 (rarely 6 to 70) centimeters. The leaves are linear to linear-lanceolate and have entire margins. The top is hairy with fine bristles, both sides have 1 to 3 strong thorns at the base. The heads are single and have a diameter of 10 to 15 millimeters. The tip of the bracts is long, protruding to erect and protruding and piercing.

The flowering period extends from May to July.

Occurrence

Ptilostemon stellatus occurs in the northeastern Mediterranean region in Italy, Sicily, Crete and the Balkan Peninsula. In Crete, the species grows on dry fallow land and pastures at altitudes of 0 to 800 meters.
