Ptujska Gora is a well-known Slovenian pilgrimage site . The Gothic pilgrimage church called Bazilika Marije Zavetnice s plaščem ( Basilica of the Madonna in Protection ) dates from the 14th century and was founded in 2010 by Pope Benedict XVI. raised to the minor basilica . On the main altar of the basilica there is a well-known relief of grace of the Madonna in the protective cloak, created around the year 1410. Under her cloak there are 82 figures, some of which represent historical people of that time. According to legend, during the Turkish attacks , Mary wrapped the church in a dark cloud so that the Turks could not see it. The village was known as Črna Gora (Black Mountain) for a long time before it was renamed Ptujska Gora at the beginning of the 20th century.
