Alejandro "Álex" Abrines Redondo (born August 1, 1993 in Palma ) is a Spanish basketball player who is currently active for FC Barcelona in the ACB and EuroLeague leagues .

Career

Álex Abrines played until he was 17, unnoticed by the big Spanish clubs, for the small club in his hometown AEB La Salle Palma . In September 2010, Unicaja Málaga signed the talented young man and put him in the second team Clínicas Rincón Axarquía in the LEB Oro . In the 2010/11 season he brought it in 30 games to an average of 5.3 points and 1.8 rebounds. Nevertheless, he became part of the club's first team the following year, celebrated his debut in the ACB league in a game against CB Gran Canaria on October 9, 2011 and also played for the first time in the ULEB Euroleague on November 9 against KK Zagreb .

At the beginning of the season Abrines was only used sporadically, but from the end of February 2012 he played his way into the regular team and impressed despite his young age with strong performances. In March 2012 he scored 31 points in a league encounter against ASEFA Estudiantes , a record for a player his age. In total, he made 18 appearances in the first team in the 2011/12 season.

In the summer of 2012 he moved to FC Barcelona , where Abrines signed a four-year contract. After he had scored an average of 9.9 points per encounter in 27 appearances in the main round of the 2015/16 ACB season, he was signed by the NBA team Oklahoma City Thunder in July 2016 .

Abrines stayed in the NBA for three years and appeared in 185 games. He achieved his best statistical point values ​​in the 2016/17 season with 6 per match. He returned to FC Barcelona during the 2019 summer break.

National team

Álex Abrines was appointed to the Spanish national team for the first time at the 2011 U-18 European Championship in Wroclaw . The Iberians won the gold medal and he himself was honored as the MVP of the tournament for his outstanding individual achievements . At the U-20 European Championships in 2012, he and his team won the bronze medal. For the senior national team , he was used at the 2014 World Cup in Spain .
