Ptychoptera minuta is a mosquito from the family of the wrinkled mosquito (Ptychopteridae).

features

The mosquito reaches a body length of 7 to 9 millimeters (males) or about 10 millimeters (females). Her body is shiny black, only on the pleura the sheen is somewhat silky. The scutellum and the legs close to the body are colored yellow, the splints ( tibia ) are brownish, the tarsi are dark brown. The wings are transparent and have only a slight opacity on the transverse veins and basal at the bifurcations of the veins. The lateral parts of the yellow-brown colored male genital appendages ( surstyli ) have a blunt protrusion on the outside. The very similar Ptychoptera scutellaris can only be distinguished on the basis of a genital examination .

Way of life and distribution

The animals are found in northern Europe and northern central Europe. The adults colonize the area around shallow streams and swamp meadows and swarm in the herb layer. The larvae develop in the waters. The adults can be seen in Central Europe in May.
