Publius Martius Verus

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Publius Martius Verus was a Roman senator and general and probably came from Tolosa in southern Spain.

Verus fought successfully against the Parthians under Lucius Verus and was rewarded with the suffect consulate in 166 . The consulate, which he held with Marcus Vibius Liberalis , is represented by an inscription dated March 23 and military diplomas , e.g. Some of them are dated April 17, 166. At the same time he became a legate of the province of Cappadocia (166-175). There he installed 172 Sohaimos as king of Armenia. When Avidius Cassius rebelled against Marcus Aurelius , he fought him and became a legate of Syria in his place . In 179 Verus was again consul and accepted into the patrician class - probably as a thank you for his loyalty .
