Polzerkreuz and “Pribos” hat
Detail from the Polzerkreuz: "Coronation of Mary and Angels"

Leisbach ( Slovenian Ležbe ) is a district of Keutschach am See , about 3 kilometers east of the center of Keutschach. Neighboring towns are Pertitschach, St. Nikolai , Sekirn , Migoriach, Viktring and Reauz.

The place has 121 inhabitants ( as of 2019 ) and is 535 m above sea level. The name "Leisbach" can be traced back to a brook that meanders "quietly" through the center of Leisbach.

history

An exact dating of the settlement of Leisbach cannot be made, but it should have taken place in the 13th century. In 1237 the parish church of St. Georg zu Keutschach was first mentioned in a document.

Polzerkreuz

On an embankment in the center of the village there is a remarkable pillar shrine with a clapboard tent roof and rich folk baroque painting (Coronation of the Virgin Mary and angels). The "Leisbacherkreuz", as it is also called, was probably built after a flood; According to the inscription, the year of origin is 1680. Restorations took place in 1829, 1860 and 1878. In 1994 the cross was re-roofed and the wall surfaces were restored.
