Sekirn ( Slov. Sekira ) is a place on the south bank of the Wörthersee in Carinthia . It is part of the community of Maria Wörth and has 219 inhabitants (as of 2001).

Filial church hl. Hubertus

The church building built by Werner Rapatz in 1976/77 is actually a mausoleum for Helmut Horten . A tent-like building with a free-standing bell tower rises above a rectangular floor plan . On the gable wall, a sgraffito of Saint Hubertus by the artists Thaddäus and Cornelius Kolig catches the eye. Inside there is a hanging cross by Werner Lössl . The bell comes from the Bachert bell foundry in Karlsruhe .

Villa Siegel, Wörthersee-Süduferstraße 23

The former Villa Mahler stands on the steep bank of the Wörthersee south bank. Architect Friedrich Theuer planned this summer residence for the composer Gustav Mahler , which was built in 1900 and 1901. In a formal language typical of villa construction at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, the building has a lake-side loggia and a steep hipped roof . Mahler lived in this summer residence until the tragic death of his daughter in 1907 and the villa still has almost completely preserved furnishings from the time it was built. Just like the “composing house”, this object is also closely connected to Mahler's artistic activity.

Cape Secirn

Since 2003, instead of the old Korotan Hotel, there have been new luxurious residential and residential complexes on the Cape, which were built by the Carinthian developer family Lanner. The road was also laid in a 145-meter-long tunnel that runs under the new properties.

Sekirn Castle

Sekirn Castle (formerly Prince Windischgraetz Castle) is now privately owned by Heidi Horten . The castle is located directly on the shores of Lake Wörthersee. The salons for receptions for the prince and princess were on the ground floor, the manor rooms on the first floor and servants on the second floor. Helmut Horten had the upper floor demolished and rebuilt the castle according to his ideas, so that today the original structure is hardly recognizable.

Vienna Boys' Choir

The summer vacation home of the Vienna Boys' Choir is located in Sekirn . Boys from the world-famous Vienna Boys' Choir stay here in summer to rehearse the programs for the autumn tours. The spacious complex has sports facilities and its own lake access. The holiday home itself is located above the lake in the Sekirner forest area. Until 1998, not only the boarding school operations but also the management and administration of the boys' choir were relocated from Vienna to Sekirn every year during the summer months.

The property, which has existed since the end of the 1950s, is to be modernized in the near future and used more intensively all year round. A bathing culture house for public events is being considered, bathing operations are not excluded, but require infrastructure and lifeguards. Cooperation for content and financing is sought as of July 2019.
