The Puerta árabe in Ágreda , a Spanish municipality in the Soria province of the Autonomous Community of Castile and León , is a city ​​gate in the barrio árabe (Arab quarter) that was built in the 10th century. The Puerta árabe has been a protected architectural monument ( Bien de Interés Cultural ) since 1931 .

history

The Puerta árabe was created during the Moorish occupation of the Spanish peninsula. It served as an entrance to the 10th century Moorish fortress that controlled the Ebro valley .

The horseshoe arch is predominant in Islamic architecture and is therefore also called the Moorish arch .
