The Puerto Rico Public Broadcasting Corporation (Spanish: Corporación para la Difusión Pública) (abbreviated after the callsign WIPR ) is the state broadcasting company of Puerto Rico , based in San Juan . The public broadcasting company is under the government of the country belonging to the United States and operates two radio and one television programs.

history

The history of WIPR goes back to the medium wave transmitter WIPR-AM . It went on air in 1949 with a news and cultural program. Almost ten years later, in 1958, the television broadcaster WIPR-TV started with the aim of bringing education and awareness to the island.

In the course of its history, WIPR-TV programs have been nominated 63 times for an Emmy and the station has won this award 30 times.

The Corporation for Public Broadcasting supported the Puerto Rico Public Broadcasting Corporation with a total of $ 4.03 million in 2013 .

WIPR's television program is broadcast both digitally and analogue terrestrially by two broadcasting stations on the island. Puerto Rico TV - WIPR from San Jose and WIPM-TV from Mayaguez . WIPR-TV was a member of the PBS association until July 1st, 2011 . Until then, the children's programs were almost exclusively taken over by PBS. WIPR produces its own programs for up to nine hours a day. The broadcast language is almost exclusively Spanish.
