Pulau Kaingaran (variants: Pulo Ingarin, Pulu Kigaran, Pulau Kingaran, Pulau Kaingaran, Pulau Kaingaran, Pulau Kingaran, Pulo Ingarin, Pulu Kigaran ) is a small island at the mouth of the Brunei River in Brunei . It is designated a Pulau Kaingaran Wildlife Sanctuary .

geography

The island is part of the Seria Anticline and, as part of the Brunei Inner Bar, forms an extension of the Pulau Berambang hill , which extends from southwest to northeast into Brunei Bay . The island of Pulau Chermin only a few hundred meters south belongs to this formation . Due to the folding of the layers, numerous ridges run parallel to each other, and so the islands of Pulau Pepatan and Pulau Baru-Baru in the east form foothills of the neighboring ridge.

The opposite coast in the west with the settlements of Kampung Sungai Besar ( Jin Kota Batu ) rises immediately to over 100  m .

Pulau Kaingaran itself rises only a few meters above the water level. It has a comma-shaped floor plan and is now densely forested and uninhabited. Only a narrow channel separates the island from the mainland at Sungai Besar and the short river Sungai Kenunuk Besar flows out at the level of the Norendes . There are numerous water farms in the protected area of the canal.

history

The island only briefly played a role in the history of the Sultanate when it served as a position for Sultan Sulu troops during the Brunei Civil War , which were deployed against Sultan Abdul Hakkul Mubin on Pulau Chermin.
