Pulcinella is an Italian animated short film directed by Emanuele Luzzati in 1973.

action

A little man dressed in white, who outwardly resembles a Pulcinella , is woken up by the rabid woman of the house and chased out of the house. He goes into town and relieves himself at a statue. The police find him and chase him. The man escapes to the roof of his house and falls asleep there.

He dreams of standing on a stage and dancing. The police always come to catch him, but he can escape them, be it by crawling into the sun or being carried up by balloons. In the end he can fool the policemen disguised as policemen by handing out flowers from his police hat. The statue is also wrapped in flowers by him. The police chase him again and the man saves himself in a volcano, which erupts a short time later.

The man wakes up from his dream and is enveloped in clouds of smoke - the housewife has fried a fish. She throws it in the air to turn it around and the man can catch the fish and eat it. The woman now chases the man who tricks into the house and goes to sleep again.

production

Pulcinella was realized in cut-out animation and was released in theaters in 1973. As with La gazza ladra , which was nominated for an Oscar in 1966, Pulcinella also follows the music of Gioachino Rossini: the plot is accompanied by the overture to Rossini's Il turco in Italia .

Awards

Pulcinella was nominated in 1974 for an Oscar in the category " Best Animated Short Film ", but could not prevail against Frank Film .

Gianini and Luzzati received the Silver Ribbon for Best Short Film in 1973 from the Italian National Syndicate of Film Journalists.
