Pump Up the Jam is a song by the Belgian house project Technotronic . It was released in August 1989 as a single from the album Pump Up the Jam: The Album .

history

Was written Pump Up the Jam by Ya Kid K (Manuela Kamosi) and Thomas De Quincey (Jo Bogaerts). The piece was produced by Patrick DeMeyer and De Quincey. The vocals were taken over by the singer Ya Kid K, but due to disputes between her and De Quincey, Felly (Felly Kilingi) was shown in the music video instead, who was also named and pictured as the singer on the album cover.

Pump Up the Jam first became a club hit and then a worldwide chart success. It was one of the first house tracks to make it into the mainstream and to survive in the US market.

The piece took second place in the charts in Germany , Switzerland and Austria as well as in Great Britain and the USA . In Germany it stayed in the charts for 29 weeks. Pump Up the Jam has sold more than 3.5 million times worldwide .

Cover versions

In 1989 the German group MC Sar & The Real McCoy covered the song and reached number 16 in the German charts.

The parody Pump ab das Bier by Raymund Thielcke alias Werner Wicht was more successful in the German charts than the original and reached the top position in January 1990.

Even Weird Al Yankovic coverte the song as Polka Your Eyes Out . In early 2014, a version of the Bodybangers hit the charts.
