Punktur is an occupation in the (stone) sculpture trade . A puncturing tool transfers fixed points of a model to scale to a block of wood or stone to be machined using methods such as a puncturing device or the three-circle method .

In 1841 a sculptor in Upper Bavaria was refused a license on the orders of King Ludwig I , because his activity could be assigned to the art of sculpture , but not to the stonemasonry . In addition, it is not suitable as an independent trade because of the dependence on the instructions of the sculptor. However, he was allowed to practice without a special license.

The future Swiss sculptor Paul Burkhard worked as a point scorer from 1905 to 1913 before studying at the Munich Academy of the Arts.
