The rum ball , also known as punch ball or truffle in some regions , is a confectionery specialty that can be assigned to confectionery .

It consists mainly of fat , sugar , almonds or nuts , cocoa and chocolate . The surface is completely covered with chocolate sprinkles. As the name suggests, rum balls are made with rum , but often only rum aroma is used. The rum ball is usually slightly larger than a marzipan potato .

In northern Germany you can also find larger rum balls at confectioners, which have a more dough-like consistency, e.g. B. on biscuit basis. They are made from baked goods, so they are more closely related to the shrapnel , and contain less fat and sugar.

In Sweden Arrak (aroma) is used instead of rum (aroma) , the ball is accordingly called arraksboll .
