Punta Aconcagua is a headland of Robert Island in the archipelago of the South Shetland Islands . It is 2.8 km southeast of Fort William and consists of a headland separating Mitchell Cove from Carlota Cove .
Scientists of the 3rd Chilean Antarctic Expedition (1948–1949) named it after Aconcagua , the highest mountain in Chile and South America.
