Punta Lara is a city in the Partido Ensenada , in the Province of Buenos Aires , Argentina . Punta Lara was founded in 1826 in the agglomeration of Gran La Plata .

Punta Lara is located around 60 kilometers south of Buenos Aires and is known as a seaside resort due to its coastal location on the Atlantic Ocean , in the bay of Río de la Plata on Ruta Provincial 11: Punta Lara - Mar del Sur.
history
In 1888 an earthquake struck the area . Punta Lara received city rights in 1931. The first mayoral election took place in 1932. At the beginning of the Second World War , the so-called battle on the Río de la Plata between the German armored ship Admiral Graf Spee and Allied (British) units took place north of Punta Lara . In 2001, the Punta Lara census recorded 8,140 inhabitants.

Punta Lara is located in the subtropical climate zone . The average annual temperature is 17.73 degrees Celsius , the annual amount of precipitation averages 1214.6 millimeters . Most of the precipitation falls in March, the least in June with an average of 50.0 millimeters. The warmest month is January with an average of 23.7 degrees Celsius, the coldest is July with 10.5 degrees Celsius. Even in winter, temperatures rarely drop below zero.
Worth seeing
- Estación Punta Lara, a historic Ferrocarril del Sud train station with a gable roof and French tiles, built in 1873, closed in 1978. It is currently used as a library.
Honorary citizen
- Silvio Pettirossi (1887–1916) a Paraguayan pilot and aviation pioneer. An imposing monument was erected in Punta Lara in his honor.
