The Punta Marguareis ( French also Pointe Marguareis ) is the highest mountain in the Ligurian Alps in the immediate vicinity of the Maritime Alps east of the Col de Tende . It is located directly on the border between Piedmont and the French department Alpes-Maritimes in eastern Provence , to which the 2,651-meter-high summit has been part since 1947.
The first traditional ascent took place in 1832 by Lorenzo Pareto over the south ridge.
