The PuppenTheater Wittenberg is a theater project in Lutherstadt Wittenberg .

The puppet theater was founded in 1972 by the artistic director Helmut Bläss as a division of the then Elbe-Elster-Theater Wittenberg . The first director of the puppet theater was Jochen Baron (until 1987). In addition to the Lutherstadt theater, the ensemble played cultural houses, school gyms and similarly suitable rooms within a radius of 70 to 80 kilometers around Lutherstadt in five districts of the former GDR . With the liquidation of the independent theater company in July 2002, the puppet theater also ceased operations.

As of April 2005, regular guest performances by puppeteers for groups of children and families in the theater complex were organized by the Friends of the Phönix Theaterwelt , founded in 2004 . Since autumn 2008 the project PuppenTheater Wittenberg has been responsible for content and organization through the joint initiative Theater & Music for Children of the Mehrgenerationenhaus Wittenberg and the Friends of the Phönix-Theaterwelt of Lutherstadt. The guest performances of the puppeteers take place in the theater complex, in the youth center "Pferdestall" and in the Bugenhagenhaus .

Expansion of the scope

Since 2010, the initiative has been organizing (more!) Theater & Music for Children on the Middle Elbe (current self-name) through the project annually from May to September in the Dessau Stadtpark open-air puppet theater as "CASPER im Park" - a series of events financed by sponsors with free entry .
