The opening took place on March 1, 1880 by the Metropolitan District Railway (predecessor of the District Line), when they extended the route from West Brompton here. At the beginning the station was called Putney Bridge & Fulham , named on the one hand after the bridge and on the other hand after the district. It was the end of the line for nine years until the line was led over the Fulham Railway Bridge and on to Wimbledon on September 3, 1889 . The electrical operation on the section High Street Kensington - Putney Bridge began on July 23, 1905, the remainder of the route to Wimbledon followed on August 27, 1905. On September 1, 1902, the name was changed to Putney Bridge & Hurlingham to move to Hurlingham Park and notify the Hurlingham Club located there . The station has had its current name since 1932.
