The Pwo polymerase is a thermostable DNA polymerase that is used for the polymerase chain reaction . The abbreviation Pwo stands for Pyrococcus woesei , a thermophilic archaebacterium from which this polymerase was isolated. When defective uracil is reached in the DNA, this polymerase breaks off the chain extension and, thanks to this read ahead function, ensures that fewer defective DNA clones are synthesized. It takes much less use than the usual Taq - or Pfu polymerases.
