Pydio (until the end of 2013: AjaXplorer ) is free software for storing data ( file hosting ) on your own server . The project was initiated in 2007 by Charles du Jeu. Pydio can also be installed for commercial use at no additional cost. This means that companies can also set up their own cloud infrastructure without license fees.

The project is based on PHP . Optionally, user administration and all settings can be outsourced to a MySQL database. Pydio can be operated via a web interface and various apps and is therefore not tied to a specific operating system. The integrated WebDAV interface also allows non-software applications to access the content of the online file manager.

Installation is simple and can be carried out by laypeople using the documentation.

Supported Operating Systems

Since the Pydio-Core runs on a web server and can be accessed via all common browsers, the software is independent of the operating system. There is also a Python-based desktop synchronization client, the current version of which runs on Windows, macOS and Linux. There is an app for Android and iOS for mobile access .

Services supported

Pydio supports the following services:

  • File storage in tree / directory structures (also via WebDAV )
  • Encrypted transmission via SSL / TLS
  • Synchronization through a desktop program
  • User and role management (can also be exported to LDAP directories)
  • Share files and folders with other users or via public URLs
  • Text editor with syntax highlighting
  • Editing of text documents, spreadsheets and presentations in OnlyOffice
  • Editor for image files
  • Playback of audio and video files
  • Integration of external storage, such as B. Amazon S3 , FTP or MySQL databases
  • Apps for mobile platforms

Since the software has a modular structure, it can be expanded to include any functionality using a plug-in system.
