The Pyrotechnische Fabrik Apel / Uftrungen was a factory for fireworks in Uftrungen , Saxony-Anhalt .

history

Friedrich Wilhelm Apel founded the pyrotechnical factory Apel / Uftrungen, called Pfau for short, in 1868. He produced fireworks items, but also worked as a subcontractor for the competition in Silberhütte . After the First World War , the Pfau passed into the hands of Fritz Helbig. In addition to pyrotechnic products for festive occasions, ignition lights for mining were also manufactured. The outbreak of World War II caused production to be halted because the Pfau was in the security area of an armaments factory that was producing in the Heimthroat .

Oskar Apel took over the factory in the post-war period and began manufacturing ignition lights again in 1949. The former family business now experienced a significant boom; almost 50 people were employed. In 1972 it was nationalized . The peacock became part of the VEB Silberhütte ; Oskar Apel, the previous owner, became operations manager. During this time, the peacock developed into the only producer of front pieces and the most important stoppine manufacturer in the GDR .

In 1991 the company was reprivatised. The company was now called Pyrotechnik Uftrungen GmbH . Attempts to take over by NICO-Silberhütte failed, whereupon Buck Werke GmbH & Co. from Bad Reichenhall bought into the company and DEPYFAG Pyrotronic GmbH was formed. In addition to fireworks products, attempts were made to specialize in the disposal of military pyrotechnics, but this was no longer successful. In 1998 Buck Werke GmbH & Co. had to file for bankruptcy. The plant in Uftrungen was then taken over by NICO , which however also disintegrated in 2001, whereupon production in Uftrungen was finally stopped.
