Pythagoras is a large impact crater on the Moon on the northwestern edge of the Moon's front , southeast of Carpenter Crater . Pythagoras shows a pronounced, terraced wall and has a central mountain with several peaks. The depth is given as 5250 m. An elevation profile of the Kaguya probe revealed a crater depth of 4200 to 4800 m and a height of the Central Mountain range of 3000 m.

The crater was named by the IAU in 1935 after the Greek philosopher Pythagoras .
