QDA software

QDA software , also known as CAQDAS (Computer-Assisted / Aided Qualitative Data Analysis Software), refers to computer programs for computer-aided qualitative data and text analysis . QDA software makes it possible, on the basis of various methodical approaches to qualitative data analysis, with the help of computer support, to implement a large number of sources or transcripts . In addition to the basic functions, some QDA programs offer additional functions, such as complex visualizations , interfaces to statistical software , often in the context of mixed- method approaches, as well as the integration of QCA processes and text mining processes.

QDA software is used in various scientific disciplines, including in qualitative social research , the psychology , the educational sciences , the social sciences , of linguistics , the market research in public health , the economics and anthropology . The CAQDAS Networking Project states that QDA software should include the following tools:

  • Search tools
  • Coding tools
  • Tools for linking the (coded) information
  • Mapping or tools for network analysis
  • Query tools
  • Writing and annotating tools

The REFI-QDA standard aims to enable interoperability between QDA software. Some of the most popular QDA software manufacturers support the standard.

Software packages

With regard to the methodological framework, the available QDA software differs significantly; For example, some programs are based on approaches from discourse analysis , grounded theory , content analysis , semi-automated qualitative analysis or quantitative analysis of qualitative data.
