content

With this book the Bab claims to be the promised prophet of God of all previous revelations and at the same time to be the harbinger of an even greater prophet. In the book he comments on Sura Yusuf of the Koran , in which the biblical story of Joseph ( Genesis 37) is explained. Each of the 111 suras of this revelation takes up a verse from the Koran sura Yusuf , which consists of 111 verses. Each sura opens with the classic basmala . This is followed by the rendering of the respective verse of the Koran, which is followed by the commentary by Bab. However, the Bab has taken the liberty of adding and withdrawing things from the text of the Koran. In some cases, verse endings of the Koran were reversed. The individual suras of Bab each comprise 42 verses. As in the Koran, some of them begin with mysterious letters . The work begins with the fanfare of the Bab and the terrible warnings to the “band of kings and sons of kings”. It predicts the fate of Mohammed Shah , orders the Grand Vizier Hajji Mirza Aqasi to resign from his post, and admonishes and warns the entire Muslim clergy, especially members of the Shia community. He praises the virtues of Baha'ullah , the “Heir of God”, the “Greatest Master” whose coming he promises, proclaims in unmistakable language the independence and all-embracing character of Babism, reveals its meaning and with certainty heralds the inevitable victory of theirs Founder. It continues to address the “peoples of the West” and calls on them to “come out of their cities and stand by the cause of God”, warns the peoples of the earth against the “terrible and most painful retribution of God”, threatens the whole Islamic world with “ greatest fire ”, if she should turn away from the newly revealed law, foretells the martyr's death of Bab, praises the high degree chosen for the people of Baha, the“ Companions of the deep red ruby-colored ark ”, promises the fading and extinguishing of some of the greatest lights on Heaven of Babism etc. The completion of this revelation took forty days. A manuscript of this work is in the collection of the orientalist Edward Granville Browne . The Letter of the Living Mulla Ali Bastami brought the work to the leading Shiite scholars in Iraq. This resulted in him being condemned in a fatwa and dying as the first martyr of Babism. In 1844 Mullah Husayn sent a few pages to Mirza Husain-Ali Nuri, who later became known as Baha'ullah. Baha'ullah immediately accepted Babism. Qurrat al-ʿAin completely translated the work into Persian . Unfortunately, this translation has not been preserved.
