history

1993-1999

The company's founders wanted to develop a program that is intuitive to use and that simulates people's associative way of thinking. This resulted in software called QuikView . "Quik" stood for Quality, Understanding, Interaction, Knowledge (quality, understanding, interaction, knowledge). The software was very innovative at the time because it relied on in-memory technology, i.e. H. the software runs completely in the main memory. The Moore's Law has therefore favors the development and success of QuikView. In 1996 the software was renamed QlikView , because users can create data analyzes with a click of the mouse.

2000-2005

In 2000, QlikTech appointed Måns Hultman as CEO . He brought Lars Björk - today's CEO - into the team as CFO . He also focused QlikTech on the business intelligence market, which accelerated the company's expansion. The number of employees doubled from 35 in 1999 to 70 in 2003. QlikTech selected a consortium of venture capital companies Accel Partners and Jerusalem Venture Partners to raise capital. Through their participation, USD 12.5 million flowed into the company. By 2004, QlikTech had an annual growth rate of 35% and sales of $ 13 million.

During this time, QlikTech entered into partnerships with Intel and HP in order to be able to use the multi-core and 64-bit architectures.

2005 – today

Due to the continuous performance development of the hardware, especially the processors and main memory, and the in-memory technology, QlikView can now manage very large amounts of data and several thousand users. This enables the use of QlikView in large companies.

In 2007, Lars Björk became CEO of QlikTech. Under his leadership, QlikTech's 2010 sales increased to $ 226.5 million. There are now more than 1,600 employees in 22 branches in twelve countries. Since July 16, 2010, QlikTech has been traded on the NASDAQ, which means that its headquarters have been relocated to the USA.

At the end of 2014, the Icelandic data provider DataMarket was taken over.

In 2016, QlikTech was acquired by the private equity company Thoma Bravo .
